The Kansas City Chiefs introduced new additions after the opening of the 2026 NFL league year. The headline arrival was Kenneth Walker III, who joined the franchise on a three-year contract worth up to $45 million.

Walker spoke during the press conference and explained why the move felt right. The former Seattle Seahawks running back said the organization showed strong interest from the start of free agency.

“You feel appreciated and wanted. Everybody wants that,” Walker said. “I’m just trying to get another one (Super Bowl ring).” He was referring to another championship after earning MVP honors in Super Bowl LX.

Walker also discussed his first conversation with Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. The two players spoke on the phone shortly after the agreement.

“We talked on the phone. He’s a real genuine person,” Walker said.

The running back added that Kansas City’s reputation played a large role in his decision. The franchise built one of the league’s most successful teams during the past decade.

“It’s a winning culture, watching over the years,” Walker said. “Plenty of Super Bowls. They know what it takes to win.”

Kansas City hopes the signing will strengthen its rushing attack. The team ranked 25th in rushing yards during the 2025 season and lacked explosive plays from the backfield. Walker produced 33 runs of 10 yards or more last year, showing the type of big-play ability the offense needed.

The move also helps reduce pressure on Mahomes as he recovers from a serious knee injury suffered late last season.

Walker now enters the 2026 season as a key piece in the Chiefs’ offensive reset. The organization hopes his speed and production can help return the team to playoff contention.
