Kenny Clark Embraces Cowboys Captaincy Ahead of Giants Opener

Kenny Clark has needed only one season with the Dallas Cowboys to establish himself as one of the team’s most respected leaders.

After joining Dallas in a trade with the Packers for Micah Parsons before the 2025 season, the three-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle was selected to the Cowboys’ leadership council and named one of their four captains for 2026. Clark joins quarterback Dak Prescott, kicker Brandon Aubrey and defensive tackle Quinnen Williams in receiving the honor.

“Yeah, I mean, it’s huge,” Clark said of the honors. “It’s something that you never take for granted and always are appreciative of — the team, my teammates viewing me as a leader. It’s just my standard every day, just coming up here and showing the guys who I am and proving that every day.”

Cowboys’ Interior Creates High Expectations

Clark and Williams give Dallas a potentially dominant defensive tackle tandem. Their combination of experience, physicality and leadership could be essential as the Cowboys attempt to improve a defense that has struggled against the run and mobile quarterbacks in previous seasons.

Dallas’ defensive front also spent training camp battling an offensive line featuring players such as Tyler Smith, Cooper Beebe and Tyler Guyton. Clark believes those daily matchups helped prepare the unit for the regular season.

“I mean, it’s awesome just going against the guys every day. It’s truly iron sharpens iron, and I’m excited,” said Clark. “I’m happy I have a chance to go against these guys, and now we get to move forward and go against the Giants.”

Containing Jaxson Dart Will Be Critical

The Cowboys will receive an immediate test against Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart. His ability to extend plays with his legs could punish a pass rush that fails to stay within their pass rush lanes and not stay disciplined.

“He’s a tough quarterback to go against,” Clark said of Dart. “He could throw the ball really well, and the biggest thing is just making sure our rushing lanes are clear. We’ve got to do a good job of containing them because he can get out the pocket and make some great plays on his feet.

Keeping Dart inside the pocket will require coordinated pressure rather than defenders simply chasing sacks. Clark and Williams should play central roles in preventing escape lanes from opening throguh the middle.

Dallas Preparing For Physical Giants Offense

New York could also challenge Dallas with a run-heavy approach involving running backs Cam Skattebo and Tyrone Tracy. With Matt Nagy serving as offensive coordinator and Greg Roman joining the staff as a senior offensive assistant, Clark expects the Giants to incorporate concepts previously associated with Baltimore’s physical rushing attack.

“He’s a great running back,” Clark said. “He runs behind his pads.They’ve got a new offensive coordinator with Matt Nagy and Greg Roman, so you expect them to run the ball and bring a lot of that Baltimore Raven stuff to the Giants.

“[We’re] excited for that challenge, for sure.”

Clark’s captaincy reflects the influence he has already made in Dallas. Now, he has an opportunity to set the tone on the field as the Cowboys begin their 2026 season against a division rival.
