NFL coaches and strategists have brought forth a shift in the defensive schemes around the league. No longer are the days of base defense, the new normal is the nickel package. With this shift, along with the abundance of slot-friendly skill sets, slot cornerbacks have found themselves on the backburner. This is wrong on many levels, and NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders will say the same thing.

Why is Kenny Moore II the Best Slot Corner in the NFL?

Treash ranked Moore II first on his list. Following the ranking he said, “No one has played more slot coverage snaps since 2018 than former UDFA Kenny Moore. In that span, he’s been the biggest playmaker at the position: His 12 interceptions from the slot are three more than any other player over the last four seasons, and his 1.33 Wins Above Replacement (PFF WAR) is well above any other predominant slot corner over that stretch. There’s no denying his ability to see the game at a high level — his instincts and processing are vital traits for a slot corner, and he checks the box with flying colors.”

Moore II has 25% more interceptions than the next closest slot corner. That means for every four interceptions  Moore II gets, his competition only gets three. Wins above replacement is a tricky stat to understand. WAR is the amount of wins that a player’s team achieves above the number of expected team wins. A replacement-level player is a player who may be added to the team for minimal cost and effort. Moore II gets you 1.33 wins compared to a middle of the road slot cornerback. He has come a long way to get to the success he achieves today. His drive and perseverance are obvious through his life story. Moore’s dedication to his craft has finally been recognized on a national level.
