Kevin Patullo’s debut at OTAs proves Eagles have dream offensive coordinator

Philadelphia Eagles fans couldn't have asked more from their new offensive coordinator, Kevin Patullo, in his first time speaking with the media since taking over the new position.

Former offensive coordinator Kellen Moore left the Eagles right after the Super Bowl to take over as the head coach of the New Orleans Saints. It became an easy decision for Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni to promote Patullo as the new offensive coordinator.

Patullo started with Philadelphia as the passing game coordinator from 2021 through 2024. He has held the title of associate head coach for the last two years.

Now stepping into one of the most critical roles within the coaching staff, how Patullo handles the media will go a long ways on how he will turn out. So far, so good.

Patullo's first impression was....impressive

On Wednesday, before the Eagles participated in their second day of OTAs, Patullo spoke to the media for the first time in a less hostile environment. The most important question from the press conference was how different the offense will look under Patullo versus Moore. Patullo is focused on utilizing his current players' skill sets and working around them.

"I think when you say different, I think it’s going to be like, what do our players do best? And then from there, we just expand upon it. Hey, we’re really good at this. Let’s bring this to the table and try this and see where we can take it. And I think really, when you look at just our staff as a whole, we’ve added some new coaches, so they bring some other layers to it too, and then the knowledge of what they have from their background. So I think as we go forward, as we build this thing together as a staff, you’ll see some new wrinkles here and there, but more so it’s just kind of building on what our players do best.”

Patullo has big shoes to fill with Moore after the offense finished eighth in the NFL last year in total offense with 367.2 yards per game. The strength of the offense stemmed from the running game, as Philadelphia ranked second in rushing yards per game with 179.3.

One question surrounding the offense is what they will do at right guard to replace Mekhi Becton , who left for the Los Angeles Chargers in the offseason. Patullo has to ensure the offense appears to be rolling and doesn't look like they are running the football, despite having offensive weapons in A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith.

Two days in OTAs and there's nothing to worry about for Philadelphia with Patullo, but that doesn't mean anything until the regular season begins to defend their Super Bowl title.
