Kevin Youkilis had little warning brother-in-law Tom Brady was ending retirement

Despite the fact that at least one sportsbook believes some individuals had early inside information regarding quarterback Tom Brady ending his brief retirement to return to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, it seems the 44-year-old kept the matter pretty close to the vest. For example, Tampa Bay wide receiver Chris Godwin told reporters earlier this month that he and fellow receiver Mike Evans learned about Brady's intentions from the man himself roughly 20 minutes before the seven-time Super Bowl champion confirmed the news via social media posts.

One would think former Boston Red Sox great Kevin Youkilis would've known about Brady's un-retirement days, if not weeks, ahead of time, as Youkilis is married to Julie Brady, Tom's sister. Per Logan Mullen of Audacy, however, Youkilis told WEEI’s "The Greg Hill Show" he did not receive much advance notice of Brady's plans back on March 13.

"I got a message on a chain, and then like 15 minutes later I was at somebody’s house and I’m trying to keep it quiet — don’t tell anybody, right? Because I don’t know when the news is coming out," Youkilis explained. "And it was instantaneous news, somebody was like 'Hey, your brother-in-law is coming back.' And I’m like, 'Oh here it comes.' And then all of a sudden here come all the text messages and here comes all the stuff of 'Hey, did you know?' It’s pretty funny what you get."

Youkilis also addressed a rumor repeated throughout February and early March that Brady wanted to make a move to the San Francisco 49ers, his favorite childhood team, this offseason.

“We’ve never had that discussion of if he would want to play out here (in San Francisco). They grew up big 49ers fans, it was a huge deal," Youkilis said. "... I don’t know, I don’t know what his plans are. I think this is it, I don’t know. We just sit back and watch, it’s his journey in life and we’re just here to support him through it."
