Keyshawn Johnson claims the Cowboys will be ‘foolish’ to not restructure Dak Prescott’s contract amid Jerry Jones’ resistance
Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

The contract extension of the Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is becoming a big issue for the team. The quarterback is set to take a massive cap hit of $59.5 million. It can certainly create a heavy problem for the Cowboys. The team has to maintain the players’ salaries under the cap, but they have to address a lot, including an extension for the wide receiver CeeDee Lamb.

In a recent interview at the Children’s Cancer Fund Event, the quarterback said that he believes the contract situation would work out smoothly. Prescott claimed that the Cowboys would offer him an extension since they have to address his mammoth cap hit.

It helps with the team and it helps with the numbers…Everything is great. It’ll happen Dak Prescott said

Considering all these, NFL analyst Keyshawn Johnson believes that the Cowboys would be foolish not to restructure the contract. Speaking in a recent episode of the Fox Sports show Undisputed, he claimed that giving $60 million to the quarterback alone would not be a viable decision for the team.

I think they will be foolish if they would do such a thing. Especially, if you are all in like you said. You are going to re-sign or try to extend CeeDee Lamb or Micah Parsons, then it would be a cap relief. To have a guy with a $60 million cap number, whose base salary is close to $30 million... If you want that to happen, you will have struggles. Keyshawn Johnson said

Johnson has always believed the Cowboys should stick with Prescott. A few days back, he defended Prescott from the fierce criticisms of Skip Bayless . Bayless was putting all the blame on the shoulders of Prescott. Keyshawn Johnson successfully defended him by saying that Prescott was not responsible for the playoff loss of the Cowboys in recent years.

What you're essentially saying is it's all Dak's fault that y'all keep getting bounced from the Playoffs? Dak has played for the Cowboys for 30 years now. Keyshawn Johnson said

Jerry Jones has a lot on his plate including Dak Prescott’s contract

This offseason, Jerry Jones has a lot on his plate. The veteran owner has to address the cap hit of Dak Prescott. And he also has to re-sign wide receiver CeeDee Lamb. The veteran owner has a limited cap space left and has to adjust a few things.

A few days back, at the NFL scout combine, the veteran indicated that they would work out Prescott’s contract situation. But he did not say whether it would be an extension or a restructure. Either way, Jones is certainly going all in during the 2024 season.

The main thing is he’s going to be our quarterback.I’ve got my mind all-in as far as we’re going to do everything that we can do to have this year be as successful as it can be and one of the reasons I feel good about it is because of Dak is for sure our quarterback. Jerry Jones said

Apart from this, the veteran is also facing some off-field issues. Recently, a judge ordered the veteran to take a paternity test after a woman who claims to be his daughter filed a lawsuit against him.
