When the NFL schedule was announced, this Monday Night Football game figured to have major playoff implications. It would feature last year’s top seed in the NFC, the Packers, hosting the defending-champion Rams. Alas, both teams are several games below .500, and as they prepare to play for pride on the notorious “frozen tundra of Lambeau Field,” we’re backing a celebrated newcomer for our top prop:
The bet: Over 10½ rushing yards for Rams quarterback Baker Mayfield (DraftKings)
After being traded by the Browns and released by the Panthers, Mayfield has landed on his feet in Los Angeles. He will become the fourth QB to start for the Rams this season, having replaced John Wolford and delivered game-winning heroics in his debut.
Since Week 8, the Packers have allowed the most rushing yards per game in the entire league. They have especially struggled against mobile quarterbacks, ceding massive ground numbers to the Eagles’ Jalen Hurts (157 yards) and the Bears’ Justin Fields (71) in the last two games.
Mayfield isn’t on the same level as those two, but he has the athleticism to make plays with his legs when needed. Over his 70 career games, he has posted double-digit rushing yardage 26 times. He scrambled twice for six yards each in last week’s game, but because two of his other carries went for a 1-yard loss, his final total was 10.
Tonight he should be good for a dozen.
