Obviously, this is what Kirk Herbstreit signed up for. He well knew that agreeing to be the analyst for Amazon Prime's "Thursday Night Football" games combined with his usual duties as one of the mainstays of ESPN's "College GameDay" program on Saturday would sometimes create some awkward travel schedules.
But Week 16, he thought, would be relatively tame. He lives in Ohio, and was slated to cover the Browns vs. Bengals tonight, then to South Bend, Indiana, for Notre Dame-Indiana on Friday and to Columbus for Ohio State-Tennessee on Saturday.
Alas, both NFL teams in that equation struggled and became two of the bigger disappotinments in the league. Amazon flexed off of Cincinnati-Cleveland and instead will air the Broncos traveling to L.A. to play the Chargers.
It's a much better game for NFL fans. It's not great for Herbstreit, however, who is now slated to rack up a 4,000-mile travel week.
The crazy thing is..this week was originally Browns at Bengals but we flexed to Broncos at Chargers in LA. Cincy to South Bend to Columbus would have been verrrry nice at week 16 but pumped we got this great game tonight on @NFLonPrime and worth the extra miles

As he noted on Twitter/X, "The crazy thing is..this week was originally Browns at Bengals but we flexed to Broncos at Chargers in LA. Cincy to South Bend to Columbus would have been verrrry nice at week 16 but pumped we got this great game tonight on @NFLonPrime and worth the extra miles What an AWESOME week for some football! Let’s GO!"
Herbstreit's weekend will start at 8:15 pm. EST on Thursday with the 9-5 Broncos facing off against Jim Harbaugh's 8-6 Chargers.
