The Seattle Seahawks are retooling on the fly yet again with hopes of challenging for an NFC West division title this season under new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak.
Kubiak headed to Seattle from the Saints this offseason to join coach Mike Macdonald's rebuilding project that will include a talented offense led by new projected starting quarterback Sam Darnold.
The additions of Kubiak and Darnold give Seahawks fans hope for improvement, but also consternation over a braintrust that must prove itself at the highest level.
On Monday, Kubiak's stern warning for the Seahawks' new look offense was revealed with OTAs (Voluntary Organized Team Activities) getting underway.
"We're going to challenge the heck out of them. There's no doubt about that," Kubiak said according to The News Tribune.
Kubiak will replace departed former Washington Huskies offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb this season, taking the reins of a talented offense led by Kenneth Walker III, Jaxson Smith-Njigba, offseason signing Cooper Kupp and others.
Kubiak is confident in his staff heading into the season.
"I know that we have a darn good group of teachers," he said.
"That's our job as coaches to be excellent teachers and to get them up to speed with the verbiage."
Kubiak called Darnold an A+ teammate who "elevates those around him."
Darnold said he is "pumped" to work with Kubiak, whom he knows from his days with the San Francisco 49ers.
Kubiak shared his thoughts on the difference between his schemes and those of his predecessors.
"These guys are football players. We're not reinventing the wheel," he said.
"We're going to say some things probably a little differently, but it's important that we all get together early and often and start to learn this new language.
"For us as their coaches, we're serving these guys.
"We're going to be at our best to make sure we're the best teachers for them, so they learn fast."
