KOC provides update on Justin Jefferson's injury status
Joseph Maiorana-USA TODAY Sports

Vikings superstar wide receiver Justin Jefferson's return to action on Sunday was short-lived. Playing for the first time since he injured his hamstring in Week 5, Jefferson suffered a chest injury on a big hit while making his second catch of the first half.

As a precaution, the Vikings took Jefferson to a local hospital in Vegas for X-rays that ruled out any significant internal complications. He was able to travel back to Minnesota with the team and is now being listed as day-to-day, head coach Kevin O'Connell said on Monday.

"I consider Justin day-to-day with a good chance to hopefully be playing with us on Saturday in Cincinnati," O'Connell said.

Jefferson will presumably be limited in practice this week, but it sounds like he has a real chance to not miss any additional time after taking a scary hit against the Raiders. He's undoubtedly going to do everything he can to be available for Saturday's game against the Bengals, who are led by his old LSU teammate Ja'Marr Chase.

Keep an eye on the injury reports the Vikings release from Tuesday through Thursday this week ahead of Saturday's matchup.

O'Connell also confirmed that Brian O'Neill and Alexander Mattison are dealing with ankle injuries, putting their status for Saturday in question. Jalen Nailor is in the concussion protocol.

The Vikings' head coach declined to name his starting quarterback for the Bengals game just yet, but all signs point to Nick Mullens getting the nod.
