There might not be a better team in the NFL when it comes to drafting than the Philadelphia Eagles. And the early returns for the 2025 class are already showing promise, which is great news for Philadelphia as they try to extend this championship window.
But there is one pick that Howie Roseman and the front office wish they could redo, and that is the selection of Jordan Davis. That’s a bit ironic considering Davis is coming off one of his best games of his career, but the former Georgia star has been just an “okay” player in the NFL through three seasons.
Meanwhile, Kyle Hamilton, the player selected right after Davis, continues to be among the best defensive players in the entire league.
Anyone who watched the epic Sunday Night Football showdown between the Ravens and the Bills will tell you that Hamilton was the best defensive player on the field. He made monster plays all game for the Ravens and nearly blocked the game-winning kick by Matt Prater. And that was just another routine night for the former Notre Dame star.
He finished the game with nine tackles, two pass deflections and a forced fumble as he was all over the field. The Ravens use him in several different ways and he is one of the big reasons why the defense has been so dominant over the last few seasons. Hamilton has made the All-Pro team twice in three seasons (first team in 2023) and is the clear-cut top safety in the NFL.
It's still a mystery as to why Hamilton fell in the 2022 draft, as he was the No. 4-ranked player on the consensus board. The Eagles had a chance to steal him at pick No. 13, but they decided to go with Davis (No. 15 on the consensus board) instead. Davis has not been a bad player in any sense, but there is no doubt that Hamilton is the better player, and his ability to play over 1,000 snaps every season makes him one of the most valuable defenders in the league.
The Eagles don’t have a lot of draft-day regrets, and they were obviously able to win a Super Bowl since that draft. But can you imagine what the defense would look like right now with Hamilton roaming the back end? It hurts too much to even think about it.
