Kyle Shanahan has provided a concerning timeline for Deebo Samuel. The San Francisco 49ers head coach shared the latest involving the veteran wide receiver after Sunday’s scare. Samuel suffered a hamstring injury during Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks.

The injury occurred in the third quarter. Samuel was ruled out almost immediately after the play. He had been favoring the area earlier in the contest before exiting for good.

Samuel carried the ball on an end-around when the injury happened. He went down, fumbled, and required medical attention on the field. Trainers helped him off, and he walked slowly to the locker room.

Senior NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that Samuel will miss “at least a couple of weeks” after picking up the hamstring injury in the divisional duel.

The 49ers won the game 32-29 despite the loss of Samuel. He finished with two catches for 21 yards and two carries for 4 yards before leaving. The team faces the Washington Commanders next on Monday Night Football.

San Francisco has already dealt with multiple absences at the position this season. Ricky Pearsall remains on injured reserve with a knee issue that will keep him off the field for the entire season. Other receivers have also spent time on IR. Samuel’s absence further thins the group for the upcoming weeks.

Hamstring injuries often require careful management for players who rely on speed and sudden movements. Shanahan’s update suggests the team will proceed cautiously. Samuel entered the game with 16 receptions for 206 yards and three touchdowns this season, plus additional production on the ground.

Deebo Samuel has dealt with multiple injuries in recent years, including one from 2024 that forced the 49ers to adjust their offense. The team has navigated similar setbacks in the past. Further details on the exact severity should come after additional tests, according to Schefter’s report.
