With a contract extension that makes him the highest paid slot cornerback in the NFL, Kyler Gordon is committed to his future with the Chicago Bears. Watching how the Bears rebuilt their franchise over the offseason only made Gordon more excited to put his name on the dotted line.

Of all their changes, hiring head coach Ben Johnson is arguably the biggest one. Chicago needed a new vision and a new foundation to stand on. Considered one of the brightest offensive minds in the NFL, Johnson’s arrival has brewed a new level of excitement in the Windy City.

Gordon has bought into the hype. After hitting rock bottom in 2024, the cornerback is looking forward to a brighter future under pastures. The fact they share the same feelings on beating the Green Bay Packers, Gordon sees a strong relationship blossoming in the cornerback and head coach’s future, via Good Morning Football.

“Definitely looking forward to the future with Ben. He’s got a lot of expectations for us, bringing the best out of everyone. Really excited to have a relationship with him.”

“That feeling at Lambeau last year was a great feeling,” Gordon said of the Bears’ Week 17 win. “Definitely have plans this season of doing the same thing. I’m excited to do that definitely. The fact he got the same type of feelings, we on the same page.”

Williams’ first season in the NFL wasn’t a total failure, as he still set the Bears rookie passing yard (3,541) and touchdown (20) records. However, the quarterback didn’t live up to his No. 1 pick standards. Still, Gordon is expecting Williams to take that giant leap forward and show the NFL who he truly is in 2025.

“I saw the way he carried himself the whole entire time,” Gordon said. “He has confidence regardless, no matter the situation. Everything he does, he’s a competitor. I think he’s just going to make more big plays this year. There were more out there last year that could’ve been made. I feel very confident in his capability. I’m very excited to see him doing this twice as better.”

In hiring Johnson, the Bears proved they’re building their roster around Williams. His arrival is only expected to bolster the quarterback’s development. Johnson played a crucial role in helping Jared Goff and the Detroit Lions join the NFL elites. While it won’t be an immediate or one-for-one change, Chicago is expecting Williams to show tremendous improvement under Johnson’s tutelage.

If Williams does take that step forward, the Bears could be playoff contenders quicker than many expected. But if the quarterback continues to struggles, Chicago will remain in an endless loop. Johnson will largely be judged on how Williams bounces back in 2025.

Gordon isn’t showing any concern, despite Williams’ 2024 struggles and Johnson entering his first-year as head coach. Instead, the cornerback thinks Chicago is on the cusp of a total turnaround. After signing his $40 million contract extension, Gordon is ready to watch Williams ball out under Johnson before putting on a show himself when the defense is on the field.
