Kyler Murray not expected to be ready for start of 2023 season

The Arizona Cardinals might not have starting quarterback Kyler Murray for a significant portion of the 2023 NFL season according to a report from NFL Networks Ian Rapoport.

Not only could he miss the start of the season as he recovers from a late season knee injury, there is the potential for Murray to miss half of the season.

Murray tore his ACL in mid December and according to Rapoport's report he wants to make sure he is completely 100% healthy before he returns to the field.

The 2022 season was a bitter disappointment for the entire Cardinals organization and resulted in sweeping changed throughout the organization, including a new general manager and head coach.

Murray signed a massive five year contract extension during the 2022 offseason. He followed that with the worst season of his career as the Cardinals stumbled to a 4-13 record and finished at the bottom of the NFC West.

The Cardinals still do not have a new head coach, but have interviewed several candidates. 

The optimistic point of view here is that any new head coach should have their franchise quarterback already in place. 

But given the way Murray played in 2022 there is still some concern as to what sort of quarterback he can be. 

He has the talent to be a franchise player, and has shown flashes of it throughout his career, but has not consistently put it together.
