Lamar Jackson attends Coca-Cola 600 in Ryan Blaney shirt
USA Today Database

The stars are in Charlotte, at least one star. Lamar Jackson is attending the Coca-Cola 600 and he already has a favorite driver. The Baltimore Ravens QB is hoping that Ryan Blaney, the defending NASCAR champion, repeats his Charlotte win from last year.

Everything changed for Ryan Blaney in last year’s Coca-Cola 600. He broke a winless streak and set off on his path to the NASCAR Cup Series championship. Well, that was enough to make Lamar Jackson a fan.

Perhaps Lamar has been a longtime Blaney fan, I won’t judge. But the point is, he’s in Charlotte and ready to see the Team Penske driver go to work.

Lamar Jackson knows elite and Ryan Blaney is an elite driver. He has been the top Ford driver for a majority of the season. While RFK Racing has come on strong lately, it’s largely been Blaney carrying the load for the Dark Horse group.

NASCAR needs stuff like this! Big names like Jackson coming to the race – that’s a big deal. No matter how you cut it, this is a good look. Fans want to be able to see celebrities at races and it makes for great social media posts, too.

Right now, the motorsports world is waiting to see if rain hits Charlotte before the start of the 600. Today, with Kyle Larson racing in the delayed Indy 500, might be the only day where fans WANT a rain delay.

Things are going to get started in Charlotte soon. So, it appears that Justin Allgaier will make the start in the No. 5 car. He will get out of the car when Larson arrives at the track.

Lamar Jackson, NASCAR fans waiting for Kyle Larson

The entire crowd, including Lamar Jackson, will be aware of Kyle Larson arriving to the track. He will have to land from a helicopter and then make his way to pit road. Then he has to execute the driver swap without losing too much time.

When Larson signed up for the Double, this was the worst-case scenario. Well, besides not qualifying for the Indy 500. This was the one thing that could throw the plans all out of wack and it did.

This is a tough situation. Everyone wanted to see Larson compete in 1100 miles of motorsport between IndyCar and NASCAR. Mother Nature apparently had other plans. That is how things go at times.

How about Lamar Jackson choosing the Coca-Cola 600 as the race to attend this weekend? He could have gone to Indianapolis, Monaco, wherever – and he chose Charlotte and NASCAR. That’s awesome.
