Lamar Jackson’s Olympic hopes just got a hard no from John Harbaugh

The NFL might be represented in the 2028 Summer Olympics, as owners are voting this week on if players from the league can participate in flag football, which is debuting in the next summer event. Naturally, the news of NFL players potentially being allowed to compete in the Olympics makes plenty of people nervous.

One such person who is nervous about the potential ruling is Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh, who doesn't like the idea of his quarterback, Lamar Jackson, competing in the Olympics one bit.

"I'm afraid I have a quarterback that'd probably be pretty good at [flag football], so, no, I'm not that excited about that in all honesty," Harbaugh said. "I believe in America. I want gold medals, but ..."

John Harbaugh makes it painfully clear where he stands on Lamar Jackson’s Olympic bid

No one should be surprised to hear Harbaugh react this way. Jackson is a huge piece of the Ravens team and without him, the offense looks completely different. Sure, we're talking about something years from now but if NFL players were allowed to compete in flag football, it'd take them away from training camp and preseason games.

Harbaugh knows that if this passes, Jackson is going to be a popular name floated around for Team USA and he clearly wants no part of his quarterback trying to win a gold medal. Not only would it take Jackson away from the team ahead of the 2028 season but it'd increase his chances of getting injured. Without Jackson, the Ravens' Super Bowl hopes take a major hit.

While it'd be fun to see NFL players get to represent the United States in the Olympics and have a shot at winning a gold medal, a lot of GMs and coaches probably agree with what Packers GM Brian Gutenkunst said. After stating that flag football being an Olympic sport was great news, Gutenkunst noted, "I'd love it if we kept the NFL players out of it."

Well, we know that John Harbaugh 100% agrees. Sorry, Lamar.
