"Give me the ball and see what happens."
That was the message from Dallas Cowboys receiver CeeDee Lamb after the win over the Los Angeles Chargers back in Week 8.
The earlier loss to the San Francisco 49ers was the catalyst for Lamb's form to skyrocket upward as he is now becoming one of the best receivers in the NFL. Since then, Lamb has had either a touchdown grab and/or 100+ yards receiving in 10 of his 11 games.
After his exploits against the Detroit Lions that saw Lamb have 13 receptions for 227 yards which included a 92-yard touchdown catch and a nice note for a "random" drug test in his locker, Lamb broke Michael Irvin's season records for receptions and yards in a devastating way.
"One of the best plays by a quarterback that we've had, that I've seen," Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said. "Dak almost got sacked and then has the presence to get it straight and step back and have the strength to throw the ball. Just one of the great plays that I've seen by a quarterback for the Cowboys."
Because of the Jimmy Johnson Ring of Honor induction, Irvin was at AT&T Stadium to watch Lamb work. For the same reason, Troy Aikman was also in the house to watch the Lamb and Dak Prescott combo.
Oh, and Jones was present, too, with the lofty comparison.
"(Lamb) is really dynamic with Dak as his quarterback,'' Jones said. "The Aikman-Irvin thing, shades of that, as far as I'm concerned. They're really hooking up."
Wow. But let's go back a bit micro here. Where does Lamb see himself in the receiver hierarchy?
“I’m not answering that question, I’ll let everybody else answer that, I’m going to continue to keep working that’s for sure and well keep stringing games together,” Lamb said.
Looking at Lamb's stats for the season, he is now second in yards (1,651), first in receptions (122), third in receiving touchdowns (10), third in yards after the catch (630), and second in yards per game (103.2).
While looking at that in a nutshell, it is impressive, but if we delve a little deeper into one in particular, it's even better.

Some had Miami Dolphins star Tyreek Hill in the MVP conversation as he was on track for 2,000 yards at one stage, but this is where it gets interesting. Now, CeeDee is just 66 yards behind Hill, who leads the league in receiving yards (1,717) with one game to go.
Lamb stated after the New York Giants' win in Week 10 where he had 11 receptions for 151 yards and a touchdown "I'm a top receiver in the game.'' He was right.
Dak, by the way, has long said the same thing, with more proof to back it up.
Said Prescott: "Remarkable, that's what CeeDee Lamb is. ... He's really just getting going and I can tell you as long as I'm here, he'll probably stack these records each and every year, to be honest with you. This is only the beginning."
Best in the game? Lamb and Dak get to be in that conversation. Best combo in Cowboys history? They're on a track worth watching.
