Lane Johnson reiterates what Eagles fans and Jalen Hurts want to hear ahead of his 13th NFL season

Philadelphia Eagles star right tackle Lane Johnson may be 35 and entering his 13th NFL season, but you wouldn’t know it by the way he feels.

Johnson, who spoke last month about feeling rejuvenated, echoed those same sentiments during a recent appearance on The Pat McAfee Show.

"It's about maintaining strength, but really, you know, not neglecting mobility," Johnson said. "You know, as you see players age, they'll lose kind of their elasticity, their ability to generate force. So for me, I'm lifting heavy earlier in the week, and later in the week. It's kind of lighter weight for speed, and then the plyometrics and all that good stuff.

"So man, it's just, I think just being consistent with it, and really, like after every season, you evaluate kind of where your body is and what you need to work on. So, you know, every year is different, but I feel good. I mean, I made a statement, I feel better now, kind of, in my mid-30s than I did when I was 30. I was going through an ankle issue, so surgery. It takes a little bit to bounce back from that."

Johnson made it clear in 2024 that he’s nowhere near slowing down. He earned his sixth Pro Bowl nod and continued to dominate at an elite level.

Per Pro Football Focus, he finished the season as the highest-graded offensive tackle in both pass-blocking (83.1) and run-blocking (92.2), a reminder of just how crucial he still is to the Eagles’ success on offense.

Even better for Philly, Johnson inked a contract extension that keeps him with the team through 2027. There was some chatter about a possible retirement before then, but based on his mindset, that doesn’t seem to be on the radar. If anything, he feels like he’s just getting started.

That’s great news not just for the Eagles’ punishing run game led by Saquon Barkley, but also for Jalen Hurts, who continues to thrive behind Johnson’s steady protection.
