Lane Johnson's latest comments reassure Eagles fans that he is far from retirement

Philadelphia Eagles star right tackle Lane Johnson may be 35 and heading into his 13th NFL season, but he certainly doesn’t feel his age.

"I feel like I'm getting close to maybe my peak," Johnson said, via NBC Sports Philadelphia. "As weird as it is to say, but that's truly how I feel.

"I feel like even though I'm 35, I feel better than I was when I started (or when I was) 29 or 30," Johnson said. "I had the (ankle) surgeries and so for me the toughest year was '21 and you can go back and watch it, you can clearly see on film, I was very hindered with my left foot."

Johnson only proved in 2024 that he’s far from slowing down, earning his sixth career Pro Bowl selection and continuing to play at an elite level.

According to Pro Football Focus, Johnson finished the 2024 campaign as the top-graded offensive tackle in both pass-blocking (83.1) and run-blocking (92.2), underscoring just how vital he remains to Philly’s offensive success on all fronts.

Even more encouraging for the Eagles is that Johnson signed a contract extension that keeps him in Philadelphia through the 2027 season. While there was some speculation about whether he might retire before the deal was up, Johnson’s mindset suggests otherwise. If anything, he feels like he’s just hitting his stride, making retirement seem like a distant thought.

That’s a massive win not only for their dominate ground game powered by Saquon Barkley, but also for quarterback Jalen Hurts, who has benefited greatly from Johnson’s consistency and protection on the line.
