According to the New York Post, Las Vegas’ newest team has set a date for their groundbreaking ceremony of the new stadium.

The ceremony is set for June 23 at 8am, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported on Monday night.

The new stadium has a price tag of $1.75 billion and will hold 33,000 fans to cheer on the Athletics.

Construction of the new stadium began in late April, and the groundbreaking ceremony will serve as a celebration of the new team with city officials and the organization.

Of the city officials and members of the organization, the ceremony is expected to include Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo, members of the state legislature and members of the Clark County Commission.

The Athletics are currently playing in a minor league stadium in Sacramento, California until the new stadium is completed.

The process for the Athletics’ move started in 2021 when Major League Baseball cleared the organization to start looking for relocation purposes after the team tried to come up with a plan to get a new stadium in Oakland and keep the team there.

The organization told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that they are expecting a mostly local turnout once the team moves to Vegas.

“We’ve always thought that baseball would likely have a strong local component,” A’s vice chair Sandy Dean told the outlet in April. “It’s hard to compare to Allegiant [Stadium] entirely because Allegiant has eight or nine games whereas baseball is going to have 81 games.”

According to the Las Vegas Stadium Authority, The Raiders had seen, on average, 68 percent of the fans at home games come from out of town.
