The Pete Carroll era in Las Vegas starts today, April 8, 2025. The Las Vegas Raiders will hold their first offseason workout today at their facility in Henderson, Nevada. Carroll has his new players on programs of strength and conditioning, meetings, and physical rehabilitation for the first few weeks. A three-day voluntary mini-camp starts on April 21. This will be the former Seattle Seahawks head coach’s first look at his new roster up close and personal.

Geno Smith Introduced To the Media On Monday

On Monday another era began for another former Seattle Seahawk for the Las Vegas Raiders. New Quarterback Geno Smith had his introductory press conference yesterday. The quarterback position has been a cause for concern since the Raiders moved to Las Vegas from Oakland in 2020. The Raiders hope he can provide much-needed stability at the position, and become a leader in their locker room.

Smith served as Russell Wilson’s backup for four years in Seattle before getting his chance to start. Carroll recalled Smith’s confidence as a backup yesterday. “I mean, not weeks, I’m talking for years playing behind Russell [Wilson], and he just never let up on that thought. And it was so impressive to me,” Carroll said. “As soon as we had the opportunity to put him in a position to take the lead, I couldn’t wait. And he’s been a winner ever since.”

Ashton Jeanty Rumored To be Raiders First-Round Target

The Las Vegas Raiders have been connected to Boise State RB Asthon Jeanty all offseason. The pick makes sense for Carroll, who famously featured power Running Back Marshawn Lynch for many years in Seattle. The 5-foot-9 216-pound Bronco led the FBS in rushing yards and touchdowns last season with 2,601 and 29 respectively. The Raiders hosted Jeanty and Texas QB Quinn Ewers on pre-draft visits. Ewers could be an interesting option in later rounds. Smith is in the back half of his career and the roster lacks a solid backup.

Final Thoughts

What an exciting time to be a fan of the Las Vegas Raiders. Carroll and Smith give the organization something they have lacked for years. Adults in the room. The pair could turn around the Raiders quite quickly. The defense led by Maxx Crosby has always been tough enough to keep them in games. If Smith can have the kind of production he had in Seattle, the AFC Playoffs could be welcoming Las Vegas next season.
