Las Vegas Raiders bring back a very familiar face but this time with a much better role

The Las Vegas Raiders are really catching their stride with their staff for the 2025 season. It feels like every hour we get new news about a new hire. On Sunday, it was Chip Kelly as the offensive coordinator. On Monday, it was Brennan Carroll, Pete Carroll's son, as the offensive line coach.

Just hours later, we learned of another hiring on the offensive staff, and it's really making for a great staff for the 2025 season, especially on the offensive side of the ball -- the side that needed the most help. And, it appears they are getting that help with experienced and proven coaches that have had a bit of high-level offenses in their history.

The most recent is a familiar face -- Greg Olson. No, not the tight end.

Raiders to hire Greg Olson

Greg Olson's NFL career started in 2001 with the San Francisco 49ers as a quarterbacks coach. He's worked with several teams, including the Detroit Lions, Los Angeles Rams, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Jacksonville Jaguars, and the Oakland/Las Vegas Raiders where he served multiple times as offensive coordinator. Olson has coached notable quarterbacks like Jon Kitna, Josh Freeman, Derek Carr, and Jared Goff.

His offensive strategies have shown success, with highlights including leading the Rams to a sixth-ranked offense in 2006 and helping the young Tampa Bay team set franchise records in 2010. His time with the Raiders saw some of their best recent offensive performances. After leaving the Raiders, he was briefly with the Los Angeles Rams in 2022 before becoming the quarterbacks coach for the Seattle Seahawks. Olson is known for his ability to develop quarterbacks and design effective offensive plays.

The Raiders last time making the postseason was in 2021, when Olson was the offensive coordinator. So, technically, he was the last to see success with this team, and he's coming back.
