Las Vegas Raiders Could Still Make 1 Huge Quarterback Trade
Mike Dinovo-USA TODAY Sports

The Las Vegas Raiders entering the NFL offseason with major questions at the quarterback position. Aidan O’Connell showed signs of potential starting talent, but he was far from consistent. That led many fans to believe that they’d pursue a big name in free agency, on the trade market, or in the 2024 NFL Draft.

When everything was said and done, all the Raiders did at quarterback was sign Gardner Minshew in free agency to compete with O’Connell.

More than anything, this was the franchise showing belief in O’Connell. Antonio Pierce has been very vocal about his confidence in the young quarterback. The Raiders’ front office clearly believes the same thing.

All of that being said, there is some buzz that the Las Vegas Raiders could still make one massive quarterback trade prior to the start of the 2024 NFL season.

Las Vegas Raiders Could Still Make Huge Quarterback Trade

Gary Davenport of Bleacher Report recently suggested eight trades that could happen following the NFL Draft. One of them included the Raiders pulling off a deal for a new quarterback. That quarterback is none other than Pittsburgh Steelers backup Justin Fields.

Here is the suggested trade that Davenport thinks could work for both sides:

Las Vegas Raiders Receive: Justin Fields, 2025 Sixth-Round Pick

Pittsburgh Steelers Receive: 2025 Third-Round Pick, 2025 Sixth-Round Pick

On the outside looking in, this would be a very intriguing trade for both teams.

For the Steelers, they would be adding some quick turnaround draft capital. All they traded to acquire Fields in the first place was a 2025 sixth-round pick that could become a fifth-rounder. Being able to add a third-round pick would be a great move if they don’t see Fields becoming their starter.

As for the Las Vegas Raiders, Fields would give them an instant starting quarterback. Fields would become the immediate starter over both O’Connell and Minshew. He would also give the team a long-term option, assuming he’s able to develop his game.

Fields would also be a very good fit with Pierce. He needs a coach that believes in him and has the ability to develop young talent. That is something that Pierce has already shown he can do.

While this trade seems unlikely, it’s interesting to think about. The Las Vegas Raiders would likely have interest in it if it presented itself. However, the Steelers seem very likely to keep Fields as their backup.
