This new iteration of the Las Vegas Raiders has lit a fire under the fan base. There is real excitement in the air for them to be able to root for and watch a good football team.

No one is asking this team to win the Super Bowl in 2025. But, they are being asked to be a competent team. Sure, it’s just training camp, but so far, everything that we have seen one heard about this team from training camp has been extremely good.

The team held a mock game on Saturday at Allegiant Stadium in front of 18 thousand fans, and the turnout was great. A ton of fans showed up, and there was great football being played on both sides of the ball. It was as successful as it gets. Well, that’s besides one thing that happened.

Raiders get terrible news after mock game regarding key role player

The mock game was basically a simulation game, only there wasn’t any tackling, really. And, there was especially no touching the quarterback. But just because there’s no intense contact, it doesn’t mean players can’t get hurt. We saw firsthand on Saturday that injuries still happen.

We knew that safety Lonnie Johnson Jr. got hurt, but that’s about all we knew. There wasn’t really any big update after the mock game ended until Sunday morning.

Now, according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, Johnson Jr. suffered a broken fibula. He’s getting an MRI to determine if there’s any additional damage.

Johnson Jr. has been a bit of a journeyman in his NFL career, but that’s about all doesn’t mean he’s a bad player. He was going to be the backup safety behind Jeremy Chinn and Isaiah Pola-Mao if one of those two were to get hurt.

Not to mention, Johnson Jr. was also set to be one of the best special teams players the Raiders had. Now, they will be without those two very key things that he brings to the team, and he could be out for a good chunk of time.
