Only scoring six points against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday was unacceptable for the Las Vegas Raiders. It didn't help that the best tight end in the league, Brock Bowers, wasn't out there to provide former Seattle Seahawks QB Geno Smith some help.
“As it got down to Saturday in walkthroughs, he couldn’t get right," head coach Pete Carroll told reporters after the game.
That's not why the Raiders lost, as he's played the last four games. However, it's certainly harder to have a competent offense without Bowers and Michael Mayer, your two best tight ends.
Carroll said #Raiders TE Brock Bowers is “day to day.” He hoped the extra days of rest would’ve helped but it didn’t.

“As it got down to Saturday, he couldn’t get right.”
Before the game, on Friday, Carroll mentioned that Bowers was likely going to play.
“We figure he’s playing. We think he’s playing, but we wanted to make sure and rest him throughout. And so, we have to list him as questionable, but he’s planning on playing… No, we just want to make sure and slow it down a little bit and give him some extra rest. That’s really what we try to do,” Carroll said when asked if Bowers had a setback with his knee injury.
From everything we heard this week regarding Bowers' injury, he has a bone bruise in his knee, and it was in his best interest to sit out. According to NFL Media's Tom Pelissero's reporting, the best way to heal the injury is to rest, and Bowers has been unwilling to do so.
We are talking about the best tight end in the league. The Raiders will need him long-term. So, yes, he should sit out a game that they were probably destined to lose anyway.
Hopefully, this week off for Bowers does him well before they play the Tennessee Titans next week in what could be a big-time, get-right game for the Raiders.
