Las Vegas Raiders' new coach is still a bit unsure what his game-day role will be in 2024
Kareem Elgazzar / USA TODAY NETWORK

The Las Vegas Raiders hired Antonio Pierce as the official head coach this offseason. Pierce took over for Josh McDaniels when the season started terribly. 2023 was not good, and the direction that McDaniels had the team going was going to be worse. So, Pierce, in a way, turned the season around.

Upon his anointment, Antonio Pierce wasted no time in assembling his team. Most of his staff members were new additions, handpicked by Pierce himself. Among these was Marvin Lewis, a seasoned coach with a wealth of wisdom and experience in the sport. His inclusion in the coaching staff is a testament to the team's commitment to excellence, and the audience can rest assured that the Raiders are in capable hands.

While Lewis has been brought on as the assistant head coach, a crucial role for Pierce as a rookie head coach, there remains a sense of intrigue about his game-day responsibilities. Will he be on the field, in the press box, or perhaps in a different capacity altogether? Lewis doesn't know, either.

"I don't know that," Lewis said on Wednesday. "I don't know where I'll actually be. The press box looked awfully crowded up there last year. I don't know yet what coach AP thinks of where I can add value. We will see."

Marvin Lewis, a 27-year NFL coaching veteran and former AP Coach of the Year (2009), will join the Raiders in 2024 as the assistant head coach. Lewis brings with him an impressive 43 years of coaching experience at the collegiate and professional level, including 27 years of experience coaching in the NFL—16 years as an NFL head coach. His coaching achievements include leading the Cincinnati Bengals to the playoffs seven times, a testament to his ability to build successful teams.

The Raiders are confident that Pierce will have Lewis in the right spot, and while he doesn't know where he will be, it sounds like he is also confident in Pierce's judgment of that. This coaching staff is awesome, and we will see what a good coaching team looks like in Las Vegas once again.
