The new regime for the Las Vegas Raiders has really started off their stint strong, and to me, much stronger than the last few did.
And it helps when you have a guy like Pete Carroll as your head coach, who won a Super Bowl with the Seattle Seahawks against the Denver Broncos and went to another one against the New England Patriots. So, he knows what he is doing. It also helps that they have a guy in John Spytek who saw a ton with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
So, they have put together a great acquisition of offseason talent, and that is one of the steps to winning the offseason. The other one is to establish a culture, just like we have talked about a million times by now. The Raiders, though, desperately need that more than most teams do in this position because they have had so many regimes and cultures over the last decade or so.
Carroll and the new regime have brought that, and it's even more evident while the Raiders are at Media Day. You can see it on the YouTube broadcast.
When the Raiders have done Media Day in the past, they didn't have fans there. And, why would they? It's Media Day, not fan day. Not that it's a bad thing, but it's not something you usually think about. And, it's not something that other teams really do either.
The Raiders, though, have one of the biggest fan bases in all of American sports. And, they recognize that, but really, this new regime has recognized that, so much so that they have brought a group of fans to Media Day and allowed them to watch it all from the bleachers on the sideline.
And even better, that's how they opened their show on their YouTube broadcast, by panning to the fans and showing they were there. And, with some of the training camp news that happened this offseason -- reports saying it would be in Northern California, and then reports that fell through-- it's good they are doing this for the fans.
