Las Vegas Raiders Safety Roderic Teamer Waived

The Las Vegas Raiders went multiple without safety Roderic Teamer since their win over the New England Patriots earlier in the season. The veteran safety practiced with the Raiders last week and was activated from the Injured Reserve list on Saturday.

According to sources, though, Teamer was arrested early Sunday morning in Las Vegas, Nev., after he was pulled over for speeding and was subsequently arrested for allegedly driving under the influence.

Entering Sunday, he was considered questionable for the Las Vegas game against the Kansas City Chiefs. He was downgraded to out for the game after his arrest.

Sunday, the Raiders were made aware of the situation but refused to comment. On Monday, that changed as Las Vegas decided to waive Teamer. Interim Head Coach Antonio Pierce confirmed the move.

"Yeah, we decided to part ways," Pierce said.

Pierce says Teamer's situation is one that other players in the locker room can learn from.

"Making smart decisions, that goes for all of us. Ultimate respect for Teamer as a person. I got to know him well and had a lot of good conversations with him. I wish him the best. Sometimes, it's the wrong time, bad timing. This is one of those cases. We decided to move forward."

Pierce, a former player who is now a coach, understands every aspect of the situation.

"I think all of our guys need to understand this," Pierce said. "Whatever you do on and off the field affects the decisions that are going to be made in this building."

"We're going to do our best to protect this brand, the shield, and the Raiders organization."

The Raiders have shown in the past that they have a short tolerance for drunk driving, and rightfully so. Teamer will now have the opportunity to try to continue his career somewhere other than Las Vegas.

The Silver and Black will return home to Allegiant Stadium to take on the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, December 10, at 4:05 p.m. EST/1:05 p.m. PST.
