Training camp has been underway for the Las Vegas Raiders, and you can really feel the excitement within the fan base. They are ready to see what this new regime has cooked up, and what the new look offense can cook up with Geno Smith.
On Saturday, Pete Carroll and his team hosted a training camp mock game at Allegiant Stadium, where fans were able to watch the team scrimmage and run a mock game, or a simulation of a real game. However, there wasn’t really any hardcore physicality going on.
Of course, they’re not going to do that in a game like simulation in front of fans. But, this is the NFL, and the most violent sport there is that isn’t a combat sport. And, things can happen — players can get hurt without any physicality, too.
That happened to the Raiders on Saturday. They walked into Allegiant Stadium with all that hype, and a really good feeling surrounding their team. They walked out with a new potential issue that they didn’t have before.
The training camp mock game was a huge success. Over 18 thousand fans showed up to Allegiant Stadium, and the Raiders looked very solid. The offense was flowing, as Geno Smith was nearly flawless, and the defense has some very bright moments, too.
And, the fans in attendance got to see their first look of the rookies.
But, there wasn’t really any definitely something that you could consider a loss in this whole thing. On Saturday, after the game, head coach Pete Carroll let reporters on site know that the Raiders sustained an injury to an important player.
Pete Carroll said Lonnie Johnson Jr. suffered a lower leg injury.

According to Ryan McFadden of ESPN, safety Lonnie Johnson Jr. suffered a lower leg injury.
Now, some of you may be thinking that this isn’t a big loss, but it is. Johnson Jr. was going, and is going to be one of the best special teams players on the team. He is considered a special teams ace. And, he was the backup safety, so if Jeremy Chinn or Isaiah Pola-Mao got hurt, Johnson Jr. was up next due to his experience.
Now, for right now, that’s all we know about the injury. So, we will keep you updated as soon as we know more. But, you certainly hope this isn’t something long term.
