Laser-focused Russell Wilson's Week 1 game vs. Seahawks could be tense

In Week 1, new Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson will play his former team, the Seattle Seahawks. The reunion could be tense.

Wilson played 10 years in Seattle, winning a Super Bowl and making nine Pro Bowl appearances. The Seahawks missed the playoffs in Wilson’s final season in Seattle. Both parties reportedly bickered throughout the year, per The Sporting News.

Wilson recently complimented his new team, implying it was one he didn’t have to put on his back. In a tweet that has now been deleted, Broncos reporter Aric DiLalla wrote: “Wilson said at Broncos kickoff luncheon, one of the things that appealed to him about Denver, was he didn’t have to carry the team alone on his shoulders.”

In March, Seahawks general manager John Schneider believed Wilson would eventually leave Seattle.

“I don’t know if those were the exact words, but we were under the impression that there wouldn't be a long-term extension,” Schneider said in a March news conference.

The Seahawks traded Wilson instead, acquiring a package that included three players (including tight end Noah Fant) and five draft picks.

Wilson is taking his offseason preparation to another level, waking up early with his receivers.

“These guys are so focused, laser focused every one of them,” Wilson told Rod Mackey of 9News. “They’re coming in at 6 a.m., 6:30 a.m., 7 a.m. to do walkthroughs.”

Peter King of NBC Sports expects Wilson to soar this season.

“He’s just not going to fail,” King told Broncos reporter Phil Milani.“There’s no way this trade won’t be worth it.”
