Latest breakout performance from forgotten stud could shift the nature of the Los Angeles Rams' offense

Last week when the Los Angeles Rams took on the Tennessee Titans , there came a bit of a surprising performance from one forgotten player on the Rams that helped Los Angeles secure a double-digit victory over the Titans. Running back Blake Corum had his first breakout performance of his career with the Rams, tallying up 44 yards on five carries, averaging nearly nine yards a carry.

Corum mainly came in in relief duty in the second half after Kyren Williams saw 17 carries, but the snaps he did play were the most impressive of the two backs, and I'm not sure it was particularly all that close. It was easy to see his confidence build with every snap, and he broke off some impressive runs.

With Corum beginning to find his groove in Los Angeles, the Rams' offense can add a completely different element that they were lacking all last season. If that groove continues, the Rams become that much more deadly than they already are. With Stafford playing at an elite level, it feels like the Rams' offense is shaping up to be one of the best in the NFL.

A Two-Headed Monster Running Back Committee In LA

The Rams had originally drafted Corum to spell Williams, with general manager Les Snead joking that the team couldn't tell the difference between the two given their similarities as runners. That original plan didn't work out, as Corum battled injuries and never found his confidence, forcing Williams to dominate over 90% of the touches in the Rams' backfield last season.

After the game against the Titans, however, head coach Sean McVay outlined that their plan was for Corum to become even more involved with the offense moving forward, something that might give some pause to those who own Williams in fantasy. The Rams ideally want to move forward with a 65-35 split between Williams and Corum.

While this doesn't leave any room for fourth-round pick running back Jarquez Hunter, it does add a different element to the Rams' offense that they didn't have with Williams dominating the touches.

Quite simply, Corum is a much better athlete and a more dynamic rusher than Williams. Williams is a physical runner and an outstanding pass protector, but as a runner, he lacks the speed and burst to consistently create explosive rushes.

Last season, the Rams were one of just four teams with fewer than 40 runs of at least 10 yards. Corum broke off two of those runs on his five carries. Williams had just two on 17 of his carries. Corum's explosiveness completely changes the dynamics of the Rams' offense, and gives opposing defenses a new threat they have to account for.

If the Rams can continue improving their rotation of these two or figure out a way to get them both in the game at the same time, it could be an even bigger headache for defensive coordinators to try and solve moving forward.
