Latest Cowboys' free agency news raises serious concern for 2024 offense
Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

The Dallas Cowboys are losing more than one player to the Washington Commanders now that the 2024 NFL free agency has kicked off.

After reports of Dorance Armstrong planning to sign with Dan Quinn's new team, it appears the Cowboys' former friend is also targeting offensive guys.

Per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Commanders are now expected to sign center Tyler Biadasz.

The report is intriguing as it leaves the Cowboys in an uncomfortable but potentially better spot.

While it's true that Dallas could use an upgrade over Biadasz upfront, the front office is certainly playing a risky game as they're trending toward losing their All-Pro left tackle amid reports on Tyron Smith being unlikely to return and now their center.

At the same time, left guard also becomes a question mark as Tyler Smith could be kicked outside to play tackle.

Going from Tyron to Tyler would be a downgrade at tackle, and the same goes for left guard if Tyler is replaced with somebody else. After all, he just earned second-team All-Pro honors in 2023.

What the Cowboys now need to avoid is suffering a downgrade at center as well. They can do so by looking for an upgrade over Biadasz in free agency or at the very least, a solid insurance policy if they can't find a replacement in the NFL Draft.

The team is heavily expected to take an offensive lineman in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft but waltzing into April absolutely needing two starting linemen is a dangerous game to play, no matter how deep the OL rookie class is considered to be.

Hopefully, the Cowboys are proactive upfront in free agency and bring in somebody who could provide some upside at center. Otherwise, there's a scenario where the offensive line suffers a serious decline next season.
