New head coach, new era, but a lot of the same old, same old for the Dallas Cowboys , as a routine storyline might end up giving the Philadelphia Eagles even more of an advantage in the team's Week 1 showdown.
Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer announced that Joe Milton would be starting at quarterback for the team against the Atlanta Falcons. This would mean that Dak Prescott will once again not play in a preseason game, a streak that has continued since 2019.
No surprise: Dak Prescott will not play on Friday. His streak of not playing in the preseason since 2019 continues. https://t.co/cgbsDRjg45

Everyone talks about how preseason is meaningless and missing games with it is not the end of the world. In a typical season, that would be the case for Prescott since he's familiar with the offense and understands how to play the position.
The problem for Prescott is that he is bouncing back from a significant hamstring injury that caused him to miss the last nine games of the regular season. He could use the preseason to get back into a rhythm at game speed and not just practice.
These are valuable reps that he could be getting in the games, but instead the Cowboys will be overly cautious and sit him out. Not many Eagles fans will be complaining about that.
Last year, the Eagles dominated the Cowboys in both of their matchups together by a combined score of 75-13. Philly has been winners of four of the last six matchups against Dallas since their second game in 2022.
The Eagles aren't too worried, as they are the favorites to win the Week 1 game against Dallas, with some betting sites hovering around a seven-point spread. They will be celebrating their Super Bowl title, so playing a division rival while giving the home crowd something to cheer about is enough motivation for the Eagles to win the game. Even if Prescott isn't quite in rhythm early on.
