Latest mock draft has Eagles selecting yet another Georgia star

When it comes to the Eagles front office, you can never have enough Bulldogs. According to one recent mock draft, the Georgia-Philadelphia pipeline for defensive talent will be open for business this spring. Here’s how one expert sees the next draft.

Based on his projected draft order, ESPN’s Matt Miller sees San Francisco beating Philadelphia in a rematch of last year’s NFC Championship Game, leaving the Eagles with the 29th pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. He thinks they’ll use it to draft Georgia cornerback Kamari Lassiter.

Philadelphia hasn’t drafted a first-round defensive back since 1990 when they took Ben Smith, from Georgia of course. Typically, general manager Howie Roseman likes to bolster the lines with early picks, but with two starting cornerbacks over the age of 30, adding to the secondary should be a priority this offseason.

According to Pro Football Focus, Lassiter has allowed a completion on just 41.9% of the passes thrown into his coverage and opposing quarterbacks have a 56.9 passer rating when targeting him. He defended eight passes this season while allowing just seven completions.

Of course, Lassiter is by no means a perfect prospect. According to Pro Football Network, his lean, 180-pound frame makes him susceptible to physical runners and will get caught peeking into the backfield at times. At just 20 years old, he’ll also be one of the youngest players in next year’s draft.

Still, only four teams have given up more passing yards than Philadelphia this year, and undrafted free agents like Josh Jobe and Eli Ricks just aren’t cutting it. The Eagles drafted Georgia cornerback Kelee Ringo in the fourth round of last year’s draft, so reuniting Lassiter with his old running mate makes a lot of sense.
