Latest news furthers suspicion about what the Dallas Cowboys will do in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft

If you forced me to make a prediction for the Dallas Cowboys' No. 12 overall pick at the end of the month, I'm pretty sure I'd say the team is going wide receiver in the first round.

The latest news furthers that suspicion: The Cowboys are hosting WR Matthew Golden out of Texas as one of their Top 30 visits on Thursday, per FOX's insider Jordan Schultz.

By itself, the report wouldn't mean much but Golden is the fourth of four wide receivers expected to go in the first round the Cowboys are hosting ahead of the Draft. Tetairoa McMillan (Arizona), Emeka Egbuka (Ohio State), and Luther Burden (Missouri) are also on the Cowboys' list of visits. That's significant and potentially telling. Wide receiver could lead off the front office's priorities come Draft Day.

That appears to be even more so the case considering so far, no Day 2 wide receiver prospects are known to be scheduled for a visit in Dallas. Now granted, only 16 of the Cowboys' Top 30 visits have been reported. Additionally, the Cowboys did host TCU WR Jack Bech in their local Dallas Day last week.

The Cowboys badly need wide receiver help

Though the Cowboys are also looking into offensive line, running back, and even defensive line help based on their scheduled visits, the urgency for wide receiver help can't be understated.

Beyond CeeDee Lamb, there's no proven starting wide receiver on the depth chart. Jalen Tolbert is a talented one-on-one pass catcher but he has yet to prove he can be the No. 2 on offense. Simply put, the Cowboys are unlikely to find someone who can make an impact unless they use the No. 12 pick on one or cave in and sign one of the last impactful free agents available (think Amari Cooper, Keenan Allen).

In contrast, the Cowboys could wait to address running back, which is one of the most linked positions to them at 12th. They can afford to pass on it in Day 1. We can't say the same about wide receiver.
