As the draft draws closer, speculation around the Los Angeles Rams' draft plans becomes rampant. Nobody has any idea what the Rams plan on doing, with mock drafts all over the place.
One recent mock draft from NFL.com's Chad Reuter went a little off the rails for the Rams, diverging a pretty fair amount from consensus, making it a fascinating read.
"Matthew Stafford can never have too many targets. Bond splits time in the slot with Tutu Atwell while Davante Adams bedevils secondaries outside."
Reuter has the Rams trading down here with the Super Bowl-champion Philadelphia Eagles for 32nd and 96th overall.
In a vacuum, Isaiah Bond fits the kind of wide receiver the Rams need. He is a talented deep threat and smooth route runner who would help add some much-needed explosiveness to the Rams' offense.
However, he would completely flunk their character checks. I'd be surprised if the Rams invested in him, especially in the first round, but never say never with a player as talented as Bond.
Stutsman makes a ton of sense for the Rams. He would anchor the middle of the field similarly to how Ernest Jones did for years at a high level. Stutsman doesn't answer the Rams' coverage woes in that room, but he is a high-character leader who would provide a tone-setter and top-notch athlete in that room.
This selection was part of the Rams' trade back with the Eagles in round one.
I'll be honest, I'm befuddled with this one. Peebles is a three-technique defensive tackle. The Rams already have two of those in Kobie Turner and Braden Fiske. This would turn that into a particularly deep strength of the team, but that's a lot of premium in one specific role.
Denzel Burke is a tricky evaluation, with opinions split on him all over. For me, this is a tad higher than I'd be willing to spend a pick on him, due to a lack of ball production and inconsistency. However, he has good athletic traits and plays well in zone coverage, which the Rams will likely covet.
The Rams have reportedly already met with Gunnar Helm pre-draft. He makes a ton of sense as a potential target to be the heir apparent to Tyler Higbee, with his natural athleticism, catch radius, and after-the-catch ability. If he did fall all the way to 127th overall, Los Angeles should sprint the card to the podium.
