NFL Mock Drafts are coming hard and heavy across the industry right now with the event just nine days away. ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr. is done with solo mock drafts for the season, but he teamed up with Field Yates to do a three-round mock draft where they gave the Vikings Ohio State offensive lineman Donovan Jackson.

The Vikings knew they had to address the interior this offseason and went out and signed guard Will Fries and center Ryan Kelly. But Jackson would represent an upgrade over Blake Brandel at the other guard spot. Jackson has some really strong movement traits.

Vikings select Donovan Jackson in Mel Kiper Jr. mock draft

The idea of taking an interior offensive lineman isn't a foreign one for the Vikings. Since the beginning of free agency, the Vikings have selected offensive linemen 23 times.

  • Josh Simmons: 1 selection
  • Jackson: 3 selections
  • Grey Zabel: 6 selections
  • Kelvin Banks: 6 selections
  • Tyler Booker 7 selections

Interior offensive line is one of the more interesting positions for the Vikings when it comes to the NFL Draft. The offensive line could use depth at center with Ryan Kelly being in in 30s and left guard is a question mark with Blake Brandel. Now, the level of which that need exists will be different based on whoever you talk to, but it's not zero.

Jackson as a player was a left guard for most of the season before kicking out to left tackle for the playoff run. There's a good argument that Jackson should be given a chance to play at left tackle, but he arguably fits best at guard.

The other pick for the Vikings was at 97th overall in Oklahoma safety Billy Bowman Jr.

Minnesota lost Camryn Bynum in free agency, and Harrison Smith is 36. But the team can add a football vacuum in Bowman late on Day 2. Bowman had 11 picks over the past three seasons.

This would be an interesting draft haul for the Vikings, especially if they stay at both spots, which isn't the most likely.
