Latest position rankings send warning shot to NFL about Eagles' biggest strength

There are three constants in the world that everyone can rely on: death, taxes, and the Philadelphia Eagles' offensive line dominating the NFL.

Led by Eagles offensive coordinator Jeff Stoutland, Philadelphia has spent the past decade producing the best offensive linemen in the NFL. From Jason Kelce to Jason Peters to Evan Mathis, the Eagles have rarely missed on offensive linemen.

Entering the 2025 season, nothing has changed, as the unit remains one of the best in the NFL. If anyone had questioned it, no one will now after the latest evidence has been shown.

Eagles' two best linemen dominating the position rankings

PFF added the next installment of their top 32 position ranking articles, with Zoltán Buday taking the lead on it. Buday tackled the offensive tackles and paid his respects to both of the starters on each side of the line.

Starting at number one, Jalen Hurts' blindside protector Jordan Mailata takes the top spot. Mailata was able to produce the best PFF grades last year.

"Mailata was the most complete offensive lineman in the NFL in 2024.

Only two offensive tackles earned PFF pass-blocking grades above 90.0, and only two earned PFF run-blocking grades above 90.0. Philadelphia’s left tackle was the only one to achieve both feats. His 95.2 PFF overall grade also led the position."

Despite missing five games last season to injury, Mailata dominated at left tackle as he was named AP second-team All-Pro and received votes for AP Offensive Player of the Year.

Mailata's story is impressive, as he was a seventh-round pick of the Eagles in 2018 after previously playing rugby. He got his first playing time in 2020 as the starting left tackle and has held the position since, with 69 starts to his resume.

The rankings didn't end there for the Eagles, though, as right tackle Lane Johnson came in fifth. Johnson accomplished something last year that only one other player did. Spoiler alert, it was Mailata.

"Johnson, the highest-ranked right tackle on this list, was one of just two offensive tackles to earn PFF pass-blocking and run-blocking grades over 85.0 in 2024 — with the other being his teammate Jordan Mailata.

Johnson did not surrender a sack and gave up pressure on only 2.2% of pass plays during the 2024 regular season, which ranked second among all offensive tackles and led right tackles."

Philadelphia selected Johnson as the fourth overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft and remains one of the very few good decisions made by former head coach Chip Kelly. Johnson has been selected for six Pro Bowls and has been on an AP All-Pro team five times.

The only knock on Johnson's career is that he tends to miss time with injuries, but it is usually just a game or two. When the playoffs roll around, Johnson will also show up and dominate defensive linemen.

For Philadelphia, it's just another season with some of the best offensive linemen in the NFL. As for the rest of the league, it's just a recipe for nightmares occurring while trying to pressure Jalen Hurts through his protectors.
