Latest power rankings show Eagles still owns the NFL entering 2025

Last season, the Philadelphia Eagles put the NFL on notice after their dominating Super Bowl title run. This year, everyone already knows how good they are.

Bleacher Report writer Gary Davenport shared his NFL power rankings before training camp begins in two weeks. The Eagles find themselves at number one despite some roster losses, but most of the core players are expected to return in 2025.

"The Eagles were clearly the league's best team by the end of the 2024-25 postseason, and it never seemed particularly close. While I think Philly did take a slight step backward during the offseason—keeping championship teams together is both hard and expensive—I still view it as the top team in the NFL. Nothing that has transpired since the draft has changed my opinion of the Eagles."

Eagles being number one in the rankings is an appropriate spot for them

Philadelphia has earned the right to go into the 2025 season as the number one team. This is the same team that went 14-3 last year and won three of its four postseason games by double digits.

Some key players from last year aren't back on the roster:

  • C.J. Gardner-Johnson (traded)
  • Darius Slay (released)
  • Brandon Graham (retirement)
  • Josh Sweat (free agency)
  • Milton Williams (free agency)
  • Mekhi Becton (free agency)

These losses haven't stopped the Eagles from still having plenty of talent. The youth movement was alive and well this offseason with guys like Andrew Mukuba, Jalyx Hunt, Sydney Brown, Moro Ojomo, and Tyler Steen expected to have bigger roles as rookies or bench players a season ago.

Don't forget, this was the number one defense in the NFL, thanks in part to players like Zack Baun, Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, Nolan Smith Jr., Quinyon Mitchell, Cooper DeJean, and Reed Blankenship. The offense has 10 of the 11 starters back from last year's team, led by Offensive Player of the Year Saquon Barkley and Super Bowl MVP Jalen Hurts.

Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni is also back after almost being fired four games into last season, and is now on a new contract extension, far away from being let go. The culture Sirianni has built in Philly has played a fundamental role in this team's ranking at the top of the NFL.

Sure, this team might experience a dip in performance in 2025, but they remain the most loaded roster in the NFL, backed by the best coaching staff and front office. The Eagles are still built to win another Super Bowl.
