The New Orleans Saints have started to rebuild their coaching staff. The roster will need some management over the next coupler of months. The Saints will need to limbo the salary cap, too.
The NFL Draft is just over two months away. It will be extremely important for New Orleans in order to fill holes, some of which could be caused by cap casualties.
Who are the most common projected prospect picks by the Saints in recent mock drafts? Let's take a look.
The Saints might need to replace two offensive tackles this offseason, as longtime stalwart Ryan Ramczyk has dealt with a knee injury that could force him into retirement and Trevor Penning has struggled since being taken in the first round just two years ago. Guyton oozes upside with excellent quickness and the potential to anchor either tackle spot for a long time. He has allowed one sack over 29 career games (15 starts).
Field Yates gives the Saints a shiny, new OT to possibly start opposite of Ryan Ramczyk next season. The Saints may bring back Andrus Peat to fill that role, but that is still unknown.
This is another prime spot for the fifth quarterback to come off the board or a trade back for the Saints. But if they can land an explosive edge defender like Jared Verse, they would just stay put.
The Saints get lucky in this scenario, grabbing a top pass rusher in the class. Verse is arguably the best defensive lineman in the class, and he falls to fourteen in this mock draft. New Orleans was one of the worst teams at getting to the QB in 2023. That must change in 2024 and beyond.
The Saints might decide it is time to move on from Michael Thomas after the veteran missed significant time due to injury again in 2023. Odunze, Chris Olave and A.T. Perry would be a strong trio for Derek Carr to find downfield
Odunze would be the 'Michael Thomas replacement' in this scenario. Odunze is an extremely gifted, downfield threat that would be a major piece to a Saints offense that could use another weapon. Wide receiver would be a bit of a luxury pick in the first, though. Trenches may be a better choice.
The Saints’ tackle situation could be good enough, if you trust in the development of Trevor Penning at left tackle and the health of Ryan Ramczyk at right tackle. I like Latham as a good hedge bet. He is a tackle in the NFL by my eyes, but might have a future at guard, where the Saints have some insecurity with Andrus Peat approaching free agency...
Another offensive lineman here. Latham is more proven than Guyton and would probably give New Orleans better play out of the gate. That being said, he has some issues in the pass game that glared against top defenses in college ball. With solid coaching, he could be a solid NFL starter, though.

This one may frustrate some fans because the Saints used their first-round pick on an IDL last year. That being said, Murphy is an explosive, athletic interior player that got after college QBs. He may have the highest ceiling of any defensive lineman in this draft class. The duo of Murphy and Bresee could be special.
There are too many questions about the depth chart for next season before they handle their salary cap issues. A better vision for their early picks will become available by the end of April.
