The Terry McLaurin saga continues for the Washington Commanders, and we haven't had a real update in a while now. Coach Dan Quinn was asked for an update on Tuesday morning before the team's scrimmage, but he had nothing to share.
We would soon get an on-the-field update with a surprise appearance from McLaurin and another important person. Maybe fans can breathe a sigh of relief after seeing this.
McLaurin has been popping up after practices with his agent, Buddy Baker, during the last week, but we haven't seen or heard of any communication between the All-Pro WR and Commanders general manager Adam Peters. Today, before the scrimmage, we finally saw them talking on the side field.

We obviously have no idea what's being said, and we won't try to lip-read what's being discussed, but the fact that the two are openly speaking at practice for the first time is massive.
There's been a lot of discussion about the health of the relationship between McLaurin and Peters, but this seems like a healthy conversation based on body language. Getting a deal done will help both sides feel better, but still having trust and a bond afterwards is just as important.
McLaurin has been vocal about his disappointment with the front office's efforts toward a contract extension, and we haven't seen McLaurin speak since. He did follow it up with a trade request back on July 31st, but it has been a stalemate for all of August.
The season is right around the corner, with Week 1 just less than a month away, and there hasn't been any movement or signs of progress in sight. Commanders QB Jayden Daniels has built a strong connection with Deebo Samuel during McLaurin's absence, but there's no replacing the dynamic duo's production from last season. McLaurin also came over to Daniels during the scrimmage and talked to his quarterback.

The depth at wide receiver hasn't impressed much this offseason, and McLaurin's value on the field has certainly gone up in his absence. The sooner the Commanders can get McLaurin back with Daniels and the rest of the offense, the better the connection will be before the team takes the field at home against the New York Giants on Sept. 7.
