Lavonte David on extension with Buccaneers: 'I’m just trying to win more Super Bowls'

Lavonte David signed a two-year, $25 million extension with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers earlier this week. On Friday, he addressed the deal while speaking with reporters.

The official announcement of David's extension came after Tom Brady reworked his contract, agreeing to a one-year extension to create $19 million in cap space ahead of the 2021 campaign. Brady's new deal ties him to Tampa Bay through 2022.

After the Buccaneers won Super Bowl LV, head coach Bruce Arians made it clear that he didn't want any of the team's pending free agents to end up playing elsewhere. David and Kevin Minter have new deals, but the Bucs still have many free agents to sign, including Rob Gronkowski, Antonio Brown and Shaquil Barrett, among others.

David was a huge part of Tampa Bay's success on defense in 2020. The 31-year-old had one interception, forced three fumbles, recovered two fumbles, recorded 1.5 sacks, 117 tackles, 12 tackles for a loss and three quarterback hits.

He had one sack, 26 tackles, one tackle for a loss and one quarterback hit during the postseason.
