Lavonte David’s illustrious tenure with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will extend into a 14th season. The veteran linebacker has signed a one-year contract with the team for the third consecutive year, continuing a remarkable run that began when the Buccaneers drafted him in the second round in 2012.
For the fifth time since his rookie contract, Lavonte David and the Buccaneers have reaffirmed their commitment to each other. David expressed his gratitude on Monday, calling it “incredible” that the team consistently demonstrates loyalty to its players.
The Buccaneers have also re-signed wide receiver Chris Godwin this month, and with Mike Evans entering his 10th season with the team, David believes the veteran presence provides a stabilizing influence that helps younger players reach their full potential.
“For everybody to just get on board and get on the same page and make things happen ASAP, that’s really underrated.” David via the team’s communications department. “I don’t think it’s talked about enough. That just goes to show how much they believe in the guys they bring in. I think is a testament from the ownership all the way down. They want their guys, they believe in their guys, and they’re going to stick with us. I think for the young guys to see that, that gives them even more motivation.”
After enduring an eight-season playoff drought, David’s perseverance paid off with a Super Bowl championship in 2020. The Buccaneers have since dominated the division, claiming four consecutive titles. This sustained success has fostered a strong bond, making it a priority for the team and its veteran leaders, like David, to maintain continuity.
