League insider believes Aaron Rodgers could have Tom Brady-like effect in New York

Will Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers have a Tom Brady-like impact in New York?

“Brady goes to Tampa, he has more talent around him, he hosts the receivers at his house for throwing sessions, he has a great year,” an anonymous league insider recently said, via The Athletic's Mike Sando. “Rodgers goes to the Jets, he has more talent around him, he is clearly more motivated, he was at OTAs, he has been part of the offseason program. It’s the same.”

Brady, a future Hall of Famer, led the Buccaneers to a second Super Bowl title during his first season with Tampa Bay, even though they went 7-9 and missed the playoffs the previous season.

New York finished with a 7-10 record last season, but it has a talented, young roster that includes wide receiver Garrett Wilson and cornerback Sauce Gardner. Both earned Rookie of the Year honors in 2022.

However, Rodgers's play style differs from Brady's, as he relies more on his ability to throw on the run. The 39-year-old will lose some of his mobility this season, which could lead to a decline.

"Father time is undefeated," an unnamed source told Sando. "Brady always won by his arm and never had to use his feet. Aaron used his feet more in the past, and I think that part of the game has left him. He's accurate, but I don't think he can do it for a 17-game season."

Rodgers's numbers dipped in 2022. In 17 games with Green Bay, he completed 64.6 percent of his passes, threw 26 TDs and posted a 39.3 QBR, well below the league average and the second-lowest mark in his career.

Like Brady, he might benefit from a change of scenery. During his final season with New England in 2019, Brady finished with a 55.7 QBR, the second-lowest figure in his 23-year career.

If the four-time MVP plays at a high level again, the Jets should become a bona fide contender. Per OddsChecker, they have the seventh-best Super Bowl odds.
