The Kansas City Chiefs did a good job addressing some of the offensive line issues in free agency and the 2025 NFL Draft. All last season, the Chiefs were playing mix and match with their offensive line. The Chiefs' offensive line was a mess; they had guys switch from guard to tackle and some moved from one side to the other.
They tried to figure it out, but at the end of the day, it was too much for them to overcome. Heading into 2025, they do not want to have the same problem as they want the offense to have better production, especially with head coach Andy Reid and quarterback Patrick Mahomes. But that all starts up front with the offensive line.
The Chiefs did improve at the offensive line by adding a couple of tackles on both sides of the ball. That is something major heading into the new season. Left tackle was the biggest issue, but that was not the only issue on the offensive line. The Chiefs want to run the ball better as well. The offensive line was bad, and the running game suffered from it as well.
If there is one position that the Chiefs still need to address before the start of the 2025 season, it is at the left guard position. They have the right side figured out with franchising tagging guard Trey Smith this offseason. But the other guard position is still up in the air for the Chiefs this offseason.
"The Chiefs have strong starters everywhere, as you'd expect from a team that has been to three consecutive Super Bowls. The biggest question is whether second-year man Kingsley Suamataia can be successful at left guard after struggling at left tackle last season. If Suamataia fails there, it falls to Mike Caliendo, who performed admirably during last season's playoff run after Joe Thuney was moved to tackle," said Aaron Schatz of ESPN.
The Chiefs are looking to bounce back next season and get back to the Super Bowl. Having a good offensive line will go a long way in being a serious contender for 2025. The offense with a good offensive line and Mahomes can be unstoppable. It is going to be interesting to see what happens with the offensive line before the 2025 season.
