Legendary Announcer Brent Musburger Makes Pick For Super Bowl 59

Brent Musburger didn't offer the most logical rationale for his Super Bowl 59 pick.

Prognosticators and gamblers will dissect every trend and data point imaginable to forecast the winner of Sunday's matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles. Musburger, on the other hand, based his pick on Taylor Swift.

Appearing on What The Football, the decorated broadcaster named the pop star when Suzy Shuster asked whose autograph he'd most want from a modern-day athlete. Musburger explained why he's basing his Super Bowl prediction on Swift's expected presence inside the Caesars Superdome this Sunday.

"She's been a good fan, and she's one of the reasons why I'm picking the Chiefs to win this week," Musburger said. "I don't look at stats and things like that. I look for offbeat stories to pick my winners, and I want to tell your audience that Taylor Swift has attended nine Chiefs games in Kansas City, all in Kansas City this year. And they are 9-0."

Musburger noted that the streak goes back to last year. Swift attended all of last postseason's four victories, including road wins at Buffalo and Baltimore before witnessing a Super Bowl triumph over the San Francisco 49ers in Las Vegas.

Since losing to the Raiders on Dec. 25, 2023, the Chiefs have won 14 straight games with Swift in attendance. However, all nine of this season's victories were at Kansas City.

Musburger cited another irreverent trend that bodes well for the Chiefs. Nobody has ever won the Super Bowl after losing to a team quarterbacked by Kirk Cousins during the regular season. Cousins led the Atlanta Falcons to a 22-21 comeback win over the Eagles in Week 2.

His third point: Musburger wants his friend Pat Riley to profit. The former NBA head coach trademarked the term "three-peat."

Riley reportedly reached a deal to allow the NFL to use the phrase on merchandising if the Chiefs become the first team to win three straight Super Bowls.

Musburger also offered pragmatic betting advice. Those expecting a Chiefs victory will get more juice on Patrick Mahomes winning his fourth Super Bowl MVP than if they wager the Kansas City moneyline.

Then again, it may not be the best idea to take gambling tips from someone who doesn't pay attention to stats and is basing his pick on a random "curse" and a singer in the stands.
