Mike Tomlin has spent the past 12 years or so building an epic, customized city in Minecraft.
The former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach has become a huge fan of the world-building game. Tomlin, who never had a losing season in 19 years as the Steelers head coach, has unveiled a hobby that no one knew about.
Tomlin started to play when he noticed his kids spending a ton of time on the game. Eventually, it became his passion.
“Over the course of time, they got just disinterested in the game. They go on to high school and so forth and off to college. Their participation became less and less over the years. My participation probably at times increased,” Tomlin said in a YouTube stream on Wednesday night. “At different times over the course of a 12-month calendar, I would have different levels of fixation on this.”
Tomlin has described the game as therapeutic.
“I’m not a big TV watcher,” he says. “It allowed me to detach from the realities and the pressures of life.”
Tomlin went to extreme details in his city, too.
“You’ll find appropriate number of public restrooms and stuff throughout all my public facilities, men’s and women’s restrooms,” he says. “Not anything over the top in terms of detail … but it was important that I represented that.”
He also had Trump Tower.
“Not an endorsement. … This build is [circa] 2015 … we didn’t think he would win … TWICE.”
A former Pittsburgh Steelers star, Le’Veon Bell, called him out on social media.
“we were tryna win super bowls and coach T was on minecraft building cities ,” he shared.

Tomlin has been working for NBC this season, but maybe he has another career brewing as a gaming streamer.
