I'm a diehard fan of football and what they call a "filthy casual" of hip-hop. And when those two tastes collide, I can't help writing about it. That's what happened this weekend when JID name-dropped Dallas Cowboys star Micah Parsons in his latest track featuring Eminem.
It's no secret Parsons is one of the faces of the NFL, specially on the defensive side of the ball.
That's probably why he received a unique shoutout from the Atlanta-native rapper, who used an awesome verse with some wordplay referencing his pass rush success.
JID starts off the track at a very fast pace, but Parsons isn't mentioned until he slows down a bit around the two-minute mark:
"We barging in, let the car spin
Push a Porsche with the 9-1-1
Like I'm Micah Parsons when attacking a target
Half a sack when they sent the blitz,
It's a rapid departure, real rappers cease to exist,
Like it's open season, soon as they seen him,
It's 'Oh (Expletive)"
- JID
Obviously, JID's full verse isn't exactly about Parsons, but considering he's well known for his lyricism and wordplay. Not only does JID say "1-1" right before mentioning the Cowboys player who rocks the No. 11 jersey, but there could be more layers to it.
"I wouldn't be surprised if Micah Parsons drives a Porsche 911," rapper and YouTuber Knox Hill said during a breakdown of the song.
Getting a sack is also a entendre for "getting the bag" versus getting a sack in football. The Cowboys defender is in negotiations for a huge payday that will likely make him the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history. The "soon as they seen him" line can 100% be about quarterbacks facing Parsons.
Earlier in the track, JID also shouts out NFC East rival and Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels.
"I'm a crazy man,
I had to get us in the game again,
I'm seeing lights, I'm looking at the lay of the land,
I'm in command like I'm Jayden Daniels"
- JID
JID also shouts out Philadelphia 76ers point guard Tyrese Maxey, and NBA legends Kobe Bryant and Scottie Pippen. Later, Eminem shouts out UFC star Sean O'Malley.
It's not the first time JID drops a quarterback's name in a track. In his last track with Eminem ("Fuel"), he starts by shouting out former Texas A&M quarterback Kellen Mond. It's safe to say the Atlanta native is a football fan.
