The Cincinnati Bengals had a good thing going through the first few years of the Joe Burrow era. Their quarterback quickly established himself as one of the elite passers in the league and the team has accordingly assembled an impressive supporting cast around him.
Cincinnati took that to the next level in 2024, watching their offense coast to becoming the top passing unit in the NFL. That came out of a remarkable triple crown campaign from Ja'Marr Chase and an impressive 900-yard showing despite a shortened season for Tee Higgins.
Both return to the field after signing major deals in the spring, contributing to left tackle Orlando Brown Jr.'s excitement for the coming season.
"At the end of the day, paying Tee and Ja'Marr, making them more comfortable, knowing that they're going to be able to go out there and sell out even more than they have in the past, I think it's only going to make us better, to be honest."
Brown's Tuesday appearance on the NFL Network centered around a three-word message to Bengals fans: "We're really special," he said. Chase's and Higgins' return certainly plays into that belief, but the team's work through the offseason has Brown confident this offense will impress once again.
"There's so many areas that we want to take the next step in. I think at the end of the day we know who we are, we know what our DNA is, especially as a team and as an offense. So, we have a ton of confidence in that."
There's little to doubt when it comes to the Bengals' offense and this core that lit up opposing defenses a season ago. Rather, most of the questions regarding the Bengals' prospects focus on a defense that was their detriment last season.
Reigning NFL sacks leader Trey Hendrickson remains in a holdout and key rookie piece Shemar Stewart has not signed his deal either. The presence of those two will be vital in first-year coordinator Al Golden getting this defense off the ground.
But if the Bengals can get all the pieces into place and experience the necessary growth on both sides, it's hard to imagine many teams stopping them from getting back into the thick of contention.
