Lions' 2025 NFL Draft haunting them as biggest roster issue keeps being criticized

You know what this blog is about. You knew what this blog was about before you even clicked, which makes it even more impressive/maybe a little deranged that you did. Here we are, almost five months into the offseason, discussing the lack of Lions pass-rushing depth. There's nothing new to talk about, but since when has that stopped any of us? Panicking is a full-time job in the NFL.

The fine folks at Pro Football Focus know that well, which explains why they dropped a huge list of team concerns on Memorial Day Monday. I bet that traffic was killer! But just in case you wanted to feel a new, re-energized wave of internal panic, PFF's breakdown of what the Lions did – and didn't – do at that position this offseason will probably scratch the itch.

The Lions' glaring lack of pass-rushing depth is the only thing anyone wants to discuss

"Aside from simply returning bodies from injury, the biggest priority facing the Lions this offseason was landing a consistently good running mate next to Aidan Hutchinson at edge rusher. Yet, at this point in the offseason, there’s no apparent answer to that dilemma. Detroit re-signed Marcus Davenport (64.4 PFF pass-rushing grade) after he played just 89 total snaps, but the former Saint has never logged 550 snaps in a full season. On top of that, the Lions didn’t address the position until the sixth round of the draft via Ahmed Hassanein (76.9 PFF pass-rushing grade). The depth at edge rusher is currently very thin next to Hutchinson, who himself is coming off a broken leg. With veterans such as Von Miller, Jadeveon Clowney and Matthew Judon available, general manager Brad Holmes would be shrewd to pursue one."

Brad Holmes would be shrewd to pursue a good football player that can help the team is the good stuff. That's the type of analysis that only PFF's sharp minds can whip up. Now you can go to all your Lions fans friends and talk about how shrewd it would be for the Lions to add some pass rushing depth and sound super smart. Thanks, PFF!

And come to think about it, why not get all three? What'd be more shrewd than that?! If you can't get a 10-sack player in late-May, you can recreate him in the aggregate. This is what happens when you only get one talking point to deal with all offseason – by summer, you get dumb blogs aggregating hypothetical ideas stuffed with names that'll please our algorithmic overlords at Google. I hope we can keep this up for [checks calendar] another 100 days.
